Pick a single word to describe God

If you had to pick a single word to describe God, what would it be?

Holy.

In the Old Testament, God allowed Isaiah to look up into heaven and see the throne of God. Angels were around it proclaiming, “holy, holy, holy.”

In the New Testament, it is the same. John saw the throne of God in heaven with beasts flying around it proclaiming, “holy, holy, holy, …”.

Hebrews 12:14 declares that without holiness, no man shall see the Lord.

1 Peter 1:15–16 also supports this with “Be ye holy; for I am holy.”

It is because we are all sinners and have offended God’s holiness that Christ came to die and rise again for all who believe. Payment was made: Love satisfied holiness on the Cross of Christ.

Should Christians Change with the Times?

Should the church change to accommodate for the new generation of Christians?

How would you describe the new generation of Christians? The old?

What do you mean by change? Change the message? Change the Scriptures? Change the church faith and practice? Change the ordinances of the church?

What makes these new Christians different so they would need to be accommodated?

Aren’t Christians the same throughout time? In other words, aren’t they called to trust Christ for forgiveness of sins (Acts 16:31); called to live holy lives (1 Peter 1:15)? Aren’t Christians supposed to be an influence on the world?

We are commanded to be the salt of the world to influence the world and point people to Christ. That infers not changing or we would lose our savor (Matthew 5:13).

Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever (Hebrews 13:8). And His message is the same. So, what message would Christians be sending if they changed?

In what way could the church accommodate a new generation?

Isn’t the older generation supposed to raise the younger in the nurture and admonition of the Lord (Ephesians 6:4)? Isn’t the older generation supposed to teach the younger generation the things of God (Deuteronomy 6:7)? So, the new generation would be influenced by the previous generation.

Perhaps these questions might develop deeper thought and discussion on this subject.
